On the April 4th, 2020, Vodafone was officially launched in Samoa with the blessings of the Honourable Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Neioti Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi, Minister of MCIT Afamasaga Lepuiai Rico Tupai & the CEO for UTOS Tevaga Viane Tagiilima.
This is just a brand transition with complete ownership remaining as it was earlier, to which we take pride in sharing that this is a Samoan Company only. The people of Samoa have 25% shares through UTOS, and the rest of the stake-holding remains unchanged. It is not an acquisition or merger, staff have not been made redundant, this only means more job opportunities for Samoans. Again, it is just a brand transition.
“The arrival of Vodafone Samoa highlights the confidence by one of the world’s largest mobile operators in the Samoan economy. And this arrival was fore born with our Government’s strategy and commitment to grow ICT in Samoa. Today’s launch highlights again the fruits of these initiatives.” says Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Neioti Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi.
Vodafone’s footprint is in 26 countries. It has partnerships with over 50 mobile networks. It has 25 million customers of mobile, an additional 27 million fixed broadband and an additional 22 million television customers across the globe. Vodafone worldwide is known for its best network and world class technology and services.
What does this mean for the people of Samoa? Rest assured that the benefits of a global brand such as Vodafone will be passed on to the people of Samoa with relevant products and services. The future is exciting. Ready?
Side note: Adhering to the SOE rules around the gathering of maximum 5 people, we used technology to live-stream our press conference into a room with 5 x journalists. An unusual setting in comparison to previous Press conferences – but Vodafone being a responsible organisation, we understand we are living in unprecedented times to which require our cooperation to lock-down rules set by our Government.
